How to help: Get involved in activism!

Sure, you love your own pet(s), but have you thought about those animals who aren't so lucky to be living with you? Washington, DC offers a plethora of opportunities for making your voice heard, for influencing policies, and for connecting with many others who care about animals as much as you do.

Lobby

Your letters, emails, and phone calls really do count to your representatives. Click here to find out what legislation is pending in Congress and on the state levels.

Local Activist Groups

Action for Animals Network - a grassroots animal rights organization located in Northern Virginia which sponsors demonstrations, engages in community outreach with information tables at festivals and fairs, and meets with elected officials and company representatives.

Compassion over Killing - animal rights advocates who conduct investigations, and organize public demonstrations and other educational activities.

Farm Animal Reform Movement - a national, tax-exempt, educational organization advocating a plant-based diet and humane treatment of farmed animals through eight grassroots programs.

Fund for Animals - a strong animal advocacy organization founded in 1967 by prominent author and animal advocate Cleveland Amory with an office in Silver Spring, MD.

IMOM - Their "Voices for the Voiceless" campaign is working tirelessly to shut down puppy mills. They are based in Maryland but are national in scope.

United Poultry Concerns - organizes protests over the treatment of chickens in factory farms

VegDC - resource for vegans and vegetarians in DC

Vegetarian Society of DC (VSDC) - very active group with extensive resources on cruelty-free eating.
